Iolite strengthens intuition and balances the emotional body, helping its custodian see beyond illusion to a deeper truth. Known as the Viking's Compass Iolite was used as a navigation aid by Viking seafarers, who relied on its pleochroic property to determine the direction of the sun even on cloudy days.
