Yellow Onyx is a type of Chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of Quartz, characterised by its yellowish hues. Its name is derived from the Greek word "onyx," which means "claw" or "fingernail," likely referring to the layered structure of the stone.

In ancient times, Yellow Onyx was revered for its association with the sun and its supposed ability to harness solar energy. In traditional Chinese medicine, it was believed to balance the body's energy, while in ancient Egypt, it was associated with protection and strength. It was often used symbolising wealth, prosperity, and vitality. In the Middle Ages, monks considered it a symbol of purity and faithfulness; they even carved religious symbols into the stone.

Later, it became popular among royalty, who often wore ornaments made with precious material as a sign of status and wealth.

Spiritually it is thought to promote clarity of thought, inner strength, and positive energy flow. 

The coloration of Yellow Onyx can vary from pale yellow to deep gold, depending on the presence of impurities and the specific geological conditions under which it formed.

It has been found in various regions around the world, including Brazil, India, Mexico, Pakistan, and the United States.
